Mission

To establish the benchmark against which to judge the quality of user interfaces (both internally developed and purchased), and to provide guidance in the process of designing and developing user interfaces that meet this benchmark.

Vision

User interfaces throughout Cornell will be intuitive, similar across platforms and applications, and will allow efficient inquiry to and update of university data.

Objectives

To establish the benchmark against which to judge the quality of user interfaces (both internally developed and purchased).

  • Compile a list of resources that address issues of quality user interface design
  • Provide examples of user interfaces that illustrate characteristics of quality design (both positively and negatively)
  • Develop and document a list of specific characteristics recommended for implementation on Cornell user interfaces

To provide guidance in the process of designing and developing user interfaces that meet this benchmark.

  • Define and document a process for designing and developing quality user interfaces at Cornell
  • Develop a training and consulting network to assist in the process of designing and developing quality user interfaces at Cornell
  • Build a library of templates, common routines, and common design elements (e.g. icons and logos)
